As a childminder I run an equal opportunity setting and I do not discriminate, all children are welcome without prejudice and will be treated with equal concern and respect.
Children with special educational needs r physical needs should have access to the same quality activities, facilities and play opportunities as other children.
I am able to accept children who are wheelchair users.
Before a placement begins the needs of the child will be discussed in detail so I am able to determine whether or not I am able to provide the required care for that child or if I need to seek further advice and training before he/she attends.
I will assess the needs of each individual child in order to determine whether I need to adapt facilities, procedures, and activities to accommodate them.
On admission I will discuss with the parents:
How I can help their child?
What additional advice or training I may need?
How behavioural/activity plans may need to be tailored to their individual child?
Would I be required to work with outside organisations e.g. speech therapist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist etc?
What equipment their child may require or find helpful?
Parents will also be given the opportunity to ask me questions to determine whether or not I am suitable to provide the care their child will need.
During the initial visits I will observe the child and make detailed notes that will enable me to plan for the beginning of their placement, observations will continue whilst the child is in y care as this allows me to monitor their development.
