A good example will be set to children with regards to personal hygiene.

I will ensure that:

• Children will be encouraged to wash their hands after being to the bathroom.

• Children will be encouraged to wash their hands before eating or after messy play.

• Toilet facilities including changing mats, potties and toilet trainer seats will be cleaned and disinfected regularly.

• After changing nappies, hands will be washed thoroughly, as will changing mats be disinfected. Disposable nappies will be wrapped in nappy sacks and disposed of in an outside bin as soon as possible.

• All toys will be regularly cleaned.

• Children will never knowingly be put at risk of contagious diseases.

I will ensure that:

• I have knowledge of the signs and symptoms of infectious diseases.

• Parents will be advised that I cannot care for children who are ill, or in recovery, as it is unfair to other children in my care.

• I will wear disposable gloves when dealing with blood, vomit and any bodily fluids.

• Cuts and grazes will be cleaned and covered with a waterproof dressing or plaster if necessary.

• All used dressings will be disposed of immediately and appropriately.
