As a registered childminder I will implement the procedures stated in this medication policy to ensure that I meet the needs of each individual child.
Procedure:
I am unable to administer any medication to a child unless I have prior written permission from the parent/guardian.
I cannot accept prescribed medication without complete written and signed permission from the parent.
In an emergency non-prescribed medicine will be administered only if the appropriate consent form has been signed. If possible, parents will be informed prior to administration, however, if this is not possible parents will be informed afterwards, giving full details of what has been given, how much and at what time.
All medication provided by parents must be in its original packaging and labelled correctly. I will require the following information.
Child’s name
Name of medication
Dosage
Frequency of administration
Time of previous dose
Date of dispensing
Storage requirement
Expiry date
All medicines are stored safely, out of reach of children and in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.
Information about all medication administered to each child is recorded.
